Minus = you pay less a year than at SBK. Company funds open only to their own staff are left out.
SBK, Siemens-Betriebskrankenkasse, grew out of the company health fund of the Siemens group but, according to the GKV-Spitzenverband list, is now open nationwide to anyone, whoever their employer. Its additional contribution (Zusatzbeitrag) is 3.80 %, 0.90 points above the official average of 2.9 %. Among the 24 company funds (Betriebskrankenkassen) open nationwide it ranks 17; among all 71 open funds, 52. On €3,800 gross with one child, employees pay €418 a month for health and care insurance, and pensioners with a €1,600 pension €205. At the cheapest open fund an employee would pay €369 a year less. Alongside SBK there are 20 company funds that have not opened their statutes and accept only their sponsor’s staff; the ranking on this page does not cover them.
SBK among the nationwide company funds
Company funds are the largest group in the list by number, but most are small or closed. 24 of them are open nationwide, SBK among them. The table sets the cheapest and dearest of these beside SBK, using €3,800 gross and one child:
| Fund | Additional rate | You pay a month | vs SBK a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| TUI BKK | 2.50 % | €393 | −€296 |
| Audi BKK | 2.60 % | €395 | −€274 |
| WMF BKK | 2.85 % | €400 | −€217 |
| SBK | 3.80 % | €418 | · |
| VIACTIV | 4.19 % | €425 | +€89 |
| BKK24 | 4.39 % | €429 | +€135 |
What leaving SBK would save
| Gross pay | to BKK firmus (2.18 %) | to the average (2.9 %) |
|---|---|---|
| €2,500 | €243 | €135 |
| €3,800 | €369 | €205 |
| €5,000 | €486 | €270 |
| €5,813 | €565 | €314 |
The saving grows with pay up to the contribution ceiling and stays flat above it. Whether the cheapest fund is open in your state is shown by the ranking in the calculator above; regional funds drop out where they are not open.
Pensioners, the self-employed and students at SBK
| Situation | Base | Your share a month |
|---|---|---|
| Pensioner | €1,600 | €205 |
| Self-employed, no sick pay | €3,000 | €642 |
| Student under 23 | €855 | €151 |
Those who pay their contribution alone feel the additional rate most. The self-employed pay all of it on profit, students all of it on the fixed BAföG need rate, pensioners only half, because the pension insurance covers the other half. For a self-employed designer with €3,000 profit, each tenth of a point makes €36 a year, for an employee on the same gross only half that. Keep this in mind when comparing funds, especially when rises arrive at the turn of the year.
Closed company funds: a special case
20 company funds accept only their sponsor’s employees, often at a low rate. If you work for such a company, look at the full list, where these funds can be shown. Everyone else can only choose an open fund such as SBK. Anyone who leaves the company stays a member of the closed fund until they switch themselves; nobody is thrown out. Deadlines and the special termination right: work out the dates.
